Add a forklift or off-road plant

Forklifts and plant have no number plate, so they are added by hand instead of a DVLA lookup. Once a machine is in, it gets a power-source-aware pre-use check, LOLER examination reminders, and a compliance PDF, just like a van gets its MOT and walkaround. Here is how to set one up.

    Start adding a vehicle

    Tap "Add vehicle". Instead of entering a number plate, choose the off-road plant option, because forklifts and plant are not registered with the DVLA.

    Name the machine and pick its type

    Give the machine an asset ID or fleet number (this is used in place of a registration), and choose its type, for example forklift.

    Set the power source

    Choose whether the truck is diesel, LPG, or electric. For an electric truck, also choose the battery chemistry (lead-acid or lithium-ion). This tailors the pre-use checklist to the machine.

    Record the LOLER examination date

    On the machine, add the date of its last LOLER thorough examination. Autodue tracks the due date (typically 12 months later) and reminds you before it lapses, just like an MOT.

    Assign operators and you are set

    Assign the machine to the operators who use it. They then run the pre-use check from their phone before each shift, and every completed check produces a compliance PDF.

    On the fleet dashboard, click "Add vehicle" and choose the manual / off-road plant option instead of a number-plate lookup.

    Enter its details

    Give it an asset ID or fleet number, pick its type (for example forklift), and set the power source (and battery chemistry for an electric truck).

    Add the LOLER date

    On the machine, record its last LOLER thorough-examination date so Autodue can remind you before the next one is due.

    Assign operators

    Assign the machine to its operators. They carry out the pre-use checks in the mobile app; the web dashboard is for oversight, reminders, and the compliance PDFs.

Two checks, both tracked

Plant compliance sits under HSE rules, not DVSA road rules. Autodue handles both parts:

  • The daily pre-use check (PUWER), done by the operator in the app before each shift.
  • The LOLER thorough examination, done by a competent person; Autodue keeps the date and reminds you before it is due.
