Daily checks on cars & buses

Vans and HGVs always run daily walkaround checks. For cars and buses, checks are optional: switch them on per vehicle and drivers get a daily checklist with photo evidence, defect reporting and a compliance PDF, exactly like a van. Here is how to set it up.

On the web

At autodue.co.uk, signed in as an Owner or Manager.

    Open the vehicle

    In Vehicles, open the car or bus you want daily checks on. Vans, HGVs and forklifts always run checks, so there is nothing to switch on for those.

    Enable daily checks

    In the "Daily walkaround checks" section, click "Enable daily checks". The card shows your fleet-vehicle slot usage first, so you can see whether it fits your plan before anything changes.

    Upgrade if you need another slot

    A checks-enabled car uses a fleet-vehicle slot, exactly like a van. If your plan is full, the upgrade options appear right there; nothing is enabled until the slot exists.

On the mobile app

In the Autodue app, signed in as an Owner or Manager.

    Open the vehicle

    Select the car or bus from your vehicle list to open its dashboard.

    Enable daily checks

    Tap "Enable daily checks", review the slot usage shown on the confirmation sheet, and confirm. If your plan is full you are taken to the upgrade screen first.

    Drivers check as normal

    The vehicle now appears in the checks tab with its checklist: 16 points for a car (plus AdBlue on diesels), the full 19-point van list for a bus. Failed items need a photo and raise defects, exactly like a van walkaround.

A car or bus with daily checks enabled uses one fleet-vehicle slot, the same unit a van uses. Your first fleet vehicle is free; beyond that your plan covers a set number of slots. Turning checks off frees the slot immediately. Reminders stay free on every car regardless.
Cars get a 16-point daily check covering tyres, lights, brakes, steering, fluids, bodywork, seatbelts and more, drawn from the DVSA van walkaround minus the van-only items; diesel cars automatically get an AdBlue level item. Buses use the full 19-point van checklist. You can layer your own custom items or a ready-made pack on top with a custom checklist.
Yes. Once daily checks are enabled on the car, it appears in the "Assign vehicles" picker for your custom checklists, exactly like a van. If you built a checklist before enabling checks, it is waiting and works as soon as you assign it.
If your plan no longer covers every fleet vehicle, daily checks pause on the cars and buses over the limit until you upgrade or free a slot. Nothing else on the car is affected: reminders and all free features keep working, and your check history is kept.
Yes. Checks on a car or bus appear in its check history, the compliance PDF and the roadside verification page, with the same GPS, photo and timestamp evidence as a van check.
